How to Order

What do I need before ordering?

To purchase prescription eyewear you will need a valid prescription. In order to be valid, your prescription must be less than 2 years old. If you don't have your prescription on hand you can provide your us with your optometrist's contact details and we will call them for you.

We also need your pupillary distance (or PD) in order to customise your prescription lenses for your new frames. If your PD is not included in your prescription you can usually ask your optometrist or your local optical store to measure it for you. You can also measure it yourself. You can find out more about measuring your PD here.

How do I order?

Once you've chosen your frames, simply click on the "Add to Bag" button on the product details page and you will be prompted to choose which kind of eyewear you need – prescription glasses, reading glasses or non-prescription glasses.

If you need prescription glasses, you'll be given several different options on how to give us your prescription. You can choose to enter your prescription details directly on our website or upload a copy of your prescription.

Returns and Warranty

What is your returns policy?

We want you to be completely happy with your new eyewear. If for any reason you are not, we offer a no strings attached, 30 day return policy from the day you receive your eyewear. Return shipping is also free!

What is your warranty policy?

All of our frames and lenses are covered by a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. If your eyewear has a defect that does not result from your own misuse or mishandling then we will happily to repair it. If we can't repair, we will provide you with a replacement pair in the same model. There is no warranty for the replacement pair. Please be noted that you are responsible for the cost of return shipping and loss in transit if outside of our free 30 day return period. (A manufacturers' defect is considered a flaw or defect arising from the manufacturing process. In the context of eyewear, this usually refers to defective hinges, welding points, discolouration, peeling, etc.)

Our lenses are very durable as they are coated on both sides of the lens with an anti-scratch coating. This minimises all of the small scratches that generally occur in day to day handling, making your glasses clearer for longer. However, no coating is scratch proof, and this coating will not prevent a deep scratch or chip if you drop your lens on a hard surface.

If you have any questions about our warranty please call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST or email us at help@bespecd.com.au.

Do you refund if I have chosen the wrong colour or style?

Yes! If your eyewear is not exactly what you had wanted, or even if you've just changed your mind, you can return them within 30 days of receiving them.

Do you guarantee the accuracy of my prescription?

Yes! We guarantee your prescription will be accurate. If you are not completely happy with your eyewear you can return it to us within 30 days of receipt for a remake or a full refund.

How long do I have to return or exchange my eyewear?

We accept returns within 30 days of receipt. After this time, your eyewear are non-returnable.

How do I return my eyewear?

We've made making a return easy. Simply call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST or email us at help@bespecd.com.au within 30 days of receiving your eyewear. We want to know why you are returning your eyewear and try and fix any problems you are experiencing.

Once we've received your return request, we'll provide details on how you can easily return your eyewear to us.

Your eyewear should be returned in its original condition and original packaging. All items included in the original packaging (glasses, cloth, protective case, gift box) are required to be returned in order for the return to be valid. Any missing items may incur a charge.

How will I be refunded?

Refunds are issued through the same transaction method used to make the original payment.

How long does it take to receive a refund?

We aim to process your return the same day we receive it. During peak periods returns may be processed the following business day. Please allow up to 5 days for your refund to appear on your statement.

No! Returns are always free.

What if my eyewear arrive damaged or are faulty?

We try to ensure that all of our eyewear is in perfect condition before it is shipped. In the rare instance that you receive eyewear with defective frames or lenses, contact us immediately and we will arrange for a replacement as fast as we can.

All of our frames and lenses are covered by a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase. In the rare circumstance that your glasses have a manufacturing defect we will issue you with a replacement pair.

I love my new frames but they don't fit perfectly? What can I do?

All of our frames are relatively easy to adjust. We suggest that you ask at an optical store, where in most places they will make minor adjustments for free or a nominal amount.

After prolonged use it is quite common for frames to need some adjustments. The simple act of taking your eyewear on or off will eventually loosen or tighten your frames.
Prescriptions

How do I get a prescription?

If you need a new prescription, visit an optometrist or an optical store to get an eye exam and a copy of your prescription. (Eye exams are covered under Medicare and are normally free.) You should be given a copy of your prescription before you leave, but if you are not, you can ask for it. Optometrists are required by law to release this information and are usually happy to do so.

Be sure to ask your optometrist to measure your pupillary distance (PD) and write it down on your prescription. Your PD is the distance between your pupils. Your PD is not always included in your prescription, but it is important to have to make sure your glasses are 100% accurate. Having your prescription and PD in your possession will allow you to buy eyewear from any store you wish.

I can't find my prescription. What should I do?

If you have had an eye exam within the last 2 years, call your optometrist or optical store and ask them to send you your prescription. Feel free to ask for your prescription. Optometrists are obligated by law to provide it to you and are generally happy to do so. You should also ask for your pupillary distance (PD) measurement. Your PD is the distance between your pupils. Your PD is not always included in your prescription, but it is important to have to make sure your glasses are 100% accurate. Even if it is not included on your prescription, it is probably on file with your optometrist.

Will my prescription be saved to my account if I register as a user?

Yes. If you register as a user on our Website you can save your prescription/s in your account so that you do not need to enter the details every time you want to get a new "look".

My prescription has expired, but I can still see well. Do I really need a new one?

Yes, you do. An eye exam not only ensures that your prescription is right for you, it is also a check on the health of your eyes and visual system. Many eye diseases can go unnoticed until it is too late to treat them effectively so it is important to have regular eye exams even if you feel you can still see well.

How do I make sense of the abbreviations and numbers on my prescription?

The abbreviations and numbers on your prescription provide us with your doctor´s recommendation for what's needed to correct your vision. Here is a simple explanation of your prescription:

O.D. or OD – Your right eye The right eye is always examined first and its measurements are entered first on a prescription.

O.S. or OS – Your left eye The left eye is always examined after the right eye and its measurements are entered second on a prescription.

SPH or Sphere This is the power of your prescription, or how much your vision is off from "perfect" 20/20 vision. It indicates how nearsighted or farsighted you are.
  • If you are nearsighted, you will see a minus sign (e.g. -2.50) in the SPH (sphere) column
  • If you are farsighted, you will see a plus sign (e.g. +2.50) in the SPH (sphere) column
  • If you see an infinity (∞) symbol, or "Pl" or "PL" in the SPH (sphere) column, it means you are not nearsighted or farsighted in that eye and do not require a lense with corrective power. If you do not require a prescription for that eye, your lens is referred to as PLANO.
Please note that we only accept prescriptions with a SPH (sphere) value between -7.00 and +7.00.

CYL or Cylinder This is the power for correcting your vision if you have astigmatism. Astigmatism is when your eyeball is misshapen (this sounds worse than it really is. It's actually a quite common condition). Cylinder is a positive (+) or negative (-) number between -5.00 and +5.00. Your prescription may or may not have a CYL (cylinder) number. To make it clear you only have a sphere measurement for one or both eyes, your optometrist will either leave the CYL (cylinder) column blank or may use placeholders like "SPH or "DS" instead.

Please note that we only accept prescriptions with a CYL (cylinder) value between -2.00 and +2.00.

AXIS This is the degree and direction of the astigmatism. If you have a CYL (cylinder) number indicated on your prescription, you'll also have an AXIS measurement. It's a positive (+) number between 0 and 180, sometimes preceded by an "x".

PRIS or Prism This is the correction needed (if any) to align the eyes, so that they are looking straight and working well together. If you have a PRISM value, it means you have a special prescription because of a specific condition such as a lazy eye.

Unfortunately, we do not handle prescriptions with prism at this time. We recommend you purchase the frames only from us and see your optometrist for your lenses.

ADD This represents how much power gets added to your distance prescription, for your reading-only prescription or for the bottom half of your bifocal or progressive lenses.

We currently do not provide bifocal or progressive lenses in our glasses but we can provide single vision prescriptions using either your distance or reading prescription.

Pupillary Distance This is the distance between your pupils (measured in millimetres or mm) from centre to centre. This can be measured in two ways. Your binocular PD is the measurement from one pupil to another and is written as one number (e.g. 60). Your monocular PD is the measurement from one pupil to the centre of your nose and is written as two numbers (e.g. 29/31). If your PD is written as two numbers, remember that the right eye is always first.

When you get your prescription, most optometrists and optical dispensers will happily provide the PD measurement if you ask them to. However, while the law says that they must give you your prescription, they are not obligated to give you your PD measurement. However, we will need it for your order. You can find out more about measuring your own PD here.

If you are having difficulty obtaining your prescription or pupillary distance (PD), please email us at help@bespecd.com.au or call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST and we'll try to sort it out for you.

My prescription does not have any CYL or AXIS values. What does this mean?

If you do not have a value in the CYL (cylinder) or AXIS column it means that you do not have astigmatism in that eye. You do not need to enter anything in the drop-down menu on the website.

If you have any questions about your prescription, please email us at help@bespecd.com.au or call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST and we'll work it out.

What do the letters DS or SPH written in the CYL column of my prescription mean?

If you see the letters DS or SPH in the CYL (cylinder) column it means that you do not have astigmatism in that eye. You do not need to enter anything in the drop-down menu on the website.

If you have any questions about your prescription, please email us at help@bespecd.com.au or call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST and we'll help you with it.

My prescription has ADD or PRISM values

If you have a value written in the ADD column of your prescription it means you need bifocal or progressive lenses which we currently do not provide.

If you have a PRISM value, it means you have a special prescription because of a specific condition such as a lazy eye. We recommend you purchase the frames only and see your optometrist for your lenses. Please read Can I get bifocal or progressive lenses? to see your options

How do I measure my PD?

If there is no PD measurement in your prescription remember to ask your optometrist to measure it for you the next time you visit. Meanwhile, you can measure your own PD with the help of a friend. Follow the simple steps below to measure your binocular PD:

  • With your eyes level, look straight ahead in the distance.
  • Have your friend stand 30cm away from you and hold a ruler (with millimetre markings) up to the bridge of your nose.
  • They should align the ruler's zero in the centre of your left pupil and measure to the centre of the right pupil, making sure to keep the ruler level and flat.
  • Do this a few times for accuracy.
  • Record the results in millimetres.

Your binocular PD measurement should be between 50.0 mm and 80.0 mm. If it's not, you are probably doing something wrong.

Generally, binocular PD measurements have a tolerance of 3-4 mm, meaning they can vary by 3-4 mm and still have the same effect on your vision. So don't worry if you measure a few times and the measurements are different by only a few millimetres.

We recommend you have your optometrist measure your PD for you. Only measure your PD yourself as a last resort. It is particularly important to get your PD from your optometrist if you have a strong prescription.

If you have questions about how to measure your PD please email us at help@bespecd.com.au or call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST.

Will my order be checked to make sure I haven't entered anything incorrectly?

We check each order before your lenses are made and if we notice anything unusual or obviously wrong we will email or call you to clarify. However, because each person's prescription is different, we are unlikely to catch prescription entry errors unless we have a copy of your prescription.

You can provide us with a copy of your prescription in several ways. You can choose to upload a photo or scan of it during checkout or you can send us a copy after placing your order. Either fax it to us on 1800 007 988, email it to us at prescriptions@bespecd.com.au or have us contact your optometrist directly.

Do you guarantee the accuracy of my prescription?

Yes, we do! Our lenses are customised in an Australian laboratory to stringent standards. We then verify each and every lens prior to dispatch using our digital lens technology to make sure your prescription is 100% accurate.

Can I use my contact lens prescription to order my glasses?

No, your prescription for contact lenses will vary from your prescription for glasses.

Can I get bifocal or progressive lenses?

No, we currently do not offer bifocal or progressive lenses. This is because special additional measurements are required in order to ensure your glasses are perfectly accurate. However, if you would like us to make your new glasses using either the distance or reading portion of your prescription, we are happy to do so. Please email us at help@bespecd.com.au or call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST to find out how.

You are also able to purchase our frames and have your bifocal or progressive lenses fitted at your local optical store. If you choose to purchase our frames only you will receive $15 off the price.

If you would like to do this, when you are asked to choose a lens preference for your frames select "Non-Prescription Glasses" and then "I just want the frames with no lenses".

I have a strong prescription. Can you make my glasses?

We are able to fulfill single vision prescriptions with a SPH (sphere) value from -7.00 to +7.00 and a CYL (cylinder) value from -2.00 to +2.00.

If you have a stronger prescription than we can fill we suggest you purchase the frames only from us and have your lenses fitted at your local optical store. If you would like to do this, when you are asked to choose a lens preference for your frames select "Non-prescription glasses" and then "I just want the frames with no lenses".

I don't need prescription glasses. Can I just purchase your frames?

Absolutely! You can buy our frames to simply look good in. If you would like to do this, when you are asked to choose a lens preference for your frames select "Non-Prescription Glasses" and then "I plan on wearing plano/blank lenses". Your new frames will then be fitted with high quality "plano" lenses that have no corrective power. These lenses have the same great anti-scratch and anti-reflective coatings as our standard prescription lenses.

Can I order your frames only and have my lenses fitted elsewhere?

If you would like to have your lenses fitted elsewhere you can choose to purchase our frames only and you will receive $15 off the price. We recommend this option if you have a stronger prescription than we can fill or if you wear bifocal or progressive lenses.

If you would like to do this, when you are asked to choose a lens preference for your frames select "Non-Prescription Glasses" and then "I just want the frames with no lenses".

Are your lenses as good as the optical store's lenses?

Yes they are! We offer you the same high quality lenses as you would get in an optical store. We simply do not sell brand name lenses or add a huge mark-up. Our lenses are customised in a reputable Australian laboratory to stringent standards. Before they are shipped, we verify each and every lens once more using our digital lens technology to make sure your prescription is 100% accurate.

How do I give you my prescription?

You have several different ways to get your prescription to us. The simplest way is to enter the details directly on the website or to upload a photo or scan of the prescription during checkout. You can also email or fax it to us after you've placed your order. Email us at prescriptions@bespecd.com.au or fax us on 1800 007 988. (Don't forget to add your name, contact details and order number in the email or fax!) You can also choose to provide us with your optometrist's contact details so we can get your prescription for you.

Can I order by phone?

You will need to have your credit card details on hand (including the CVN number) so we can enter this information into our secure payment gateway.

Can I get reading glasses?

Yes! All of our frames can be made into reading glasses. During checkout, you will be given the option to purchase reading glasses. You can specify a lens magnification from +0.25 up to +4.00. If you need help to determine your reading glass strength from you prescription please call us on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST or email us at help@bespecd.com.au anytime and we can assist you.

I can't read the writing on my prescription. What should I do?

If you need help deciphering your optometrist's notes please fax us a copy of your prescription on 1800 007 988 or email it to us at prescriptions@bespecd.com.au.

If we can't figure it out either, we will call your optometrist or optical store for you. Don't forget to include your optometrist's contact details as well as your full name, date of birth, contact details and order number in the fax or email. (We'll need these in order to get your prescription.)

Frames

What if my frames don't fit perfectly?

All of our frames are relatively easy to adjust. We suggest that you ask at an optical store, where in most places they will make minor adjustments for free or a nominal amount.

After prolonged use it is quite common for frames to need some adjustments. The simple act of taking your glasses on or off will eventually loosen or tighten your frames.

I don't need prescription glasses. Can I just order your frames?

Absolutely! You can buy our frames to simply look good in. Your new frames will then be fitted with high quality lenses that include anti-scratch and anti-reflective coatings.

What are your frames made of?

Our acetate frames are made from handcrafted organic cellulose acetate (sometimes called zyl) which is one of the highest quality of materials that frames can be manufactured from. Cellulose acetate comes in a wide variety of colours and textures and is lightweight and can be easily adjusted.

Our metal frames are made from stainless steel which is lightweight and corrosion resistant. They are fitted with clear adjustable silicone nose pads. Silicone nose pads are the softest and most comfortable of all nose pad materials, allowing wearers to adapt quickly to their new pair of glasses. Other advantages of silicone nose pads are that they do not discolour, are easy to clean and durable.

The majority of our frames are fitted with high quality spring hinges. Spring hinges increase the comfort and fit of your glasses and ensure they don't stretch and become loose. They also make the frames more durable than fixed hinges.

How can I choose the best fit for myself?

Our Virtual Mirror Tool is an easy and fun way to "virtually" try on frames. To try frames online simply click on the "Try On" button near the picture of the frame you are interested in.

Where and how is your eyewear made?

Our frames are manufactured in China at some of the same factory production lines that manufacture many famous and more expensive name brand eyewear.

We have visited these factories in order to guarantee our frames are manufactured to the highest standards and ensure the proper working conditions for the employees. Our frames are then shipped to Australia. When we receive your order, high quality lenses customised to your prescription are cut and fitted in a reputable Australian laboratory that is 100% Australian owned.

Who designs your frames?

We do! We routinely research the world of fashion and latest runway trends and translate these into our own original designs which we then have manufactured to our exacting standards.

Do you sell other brands of glasses?

Bespecd is an independent eyewear label and we sell our own brand exclusively.
Lenses

Are your lenses as good as the optical store's lenses?

Yes they are! We offer you the same high quality lenses as you would get in an optical store. We simply do not sell brand name lenses or add a huge mark-up. Our lenses are customised in a reputable Australian laboratory to stringent standards. Before they are shipped, we verify each and every lens once more using our digital lens technology to make sure your prescription is 100% accurate.

What kind of lenses do you offer?

All of our lenses are the best quality on the market. Our standard lenses are very thin, light and durable. These lenses are included for free in the price of your frames. Anti-scratch coatings and anti-reflective coatings are also included! Anti-reflective coating is applied to reduce glare and internal reflections and provide more comfortable vision. Anti-scratch coating is applied to increase durability.

Our sunglass lenses employ the latest polarised lens technology. They offer 100% UV protection, reduce glare from reflective surfaces such as water and make colours more vibrant.

What if I want super thin high index lenses?

If you have a stronger prescription, greater than +4.00 or less than -4.00 we recommend our super thin high-index lenses. These lenses are ultra thin and very light and are necessary for strong prescriptions to avoid the "coke bottle" effect. Anti-scratch coating and anti-reflective coatings are included in the price! Super thin high index lenses cost an additional $50 for optical lenses. (Please note: If you require high-index sunglass lenses please contact us for a quote as there are additional charges.)

If you don't have a strong prescription but still want super thin high index lenses please contact us to discuss your prescription on 1300 739 597, 9:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday AEST or email us at help@bespecd.com.au at any time.

What about lens coatings – do they cost extra?

All of our prescription lenses automatically come with anti-scratch and anti-reflective (non-glare) coatings. These are included free of charge!

Can I order your frames only and have my lenses fitted elsewhere?

If you would like to have your lenses fitted elsewhere you can choose to purchase our frames only and you will receive $15 off the price. We recommend this option if you have a stronger prescription or wear bifocals or progressives. If you would like to do this, when you are asked to choose a lens preference for your frames select "Non-Prescription Glasses" and then "I just want the frames and no lenses".
Health Funds

Can I get a rebate from my private health fund?

If you are a member of a private health fund in Australia, you may be eligible for a rebate for your glasses. Whether you are eligible and the amount you can claim back depends on the type and level of cover you have. Unfortunately many private health funds do not recognise online optical dispensers. You will need to contact your health fund to confirm your eligibility and entitlement BEFORE placing your order.

Which funds are you registered with?

We are currently registered with the following private health funds:

How do I claim?

You will need to pay for your glasses in full and then send the invoice (which includes our health fund provider numbers) and appropriate claim form to your health fund in order to claim your rebate. Please note we are unable to automatically process your claim and charge you the "gap" like a bricks and mortar optical store. Unfortunately, the HICAPS electronic claim system requires that you physically present your card in order to claim on the spot.

Please note you will need to contact your health fund to confirm your eligibility and entitlement before placing your order.
Virtual Mirror

How does the Virtual Mirror Tool work?

Our Virtual Mirror Tool enables you to "virtually" try-on the frames you like using a photo of yourself. Simply click on "Try-On" near the picture of the frame you are interested in and follow the easy to use instructions to upload a photo from your computer or take a photo with your webcam. The selected frames will be placed on to your photo for you to see for yourself. You can try on as many colours and styles as you like.

For best results, we recommend you use one "passport style shot" taken straight on and one "side shot" taken with your face turned at a 45 degree angle.

If you upload a photo from your computer it must be less than 4mb.

How do I share my "Try On" photos on Facebook and Twitter?

Sharing with your friends on Facebook and Twitter is easy. Simply click on the Facebook or Twitter icon below your photo and you will be redirected to sign in to your account. You also have the option to save a copy to your computer.

If I use the Virtual Mirror Tool, do you save a copy of my photo?

No. Your photos are stored temporarily on our system for 30 days from the day you first use our "Virtual Mirror". This is so that you can easily try on frames without having to upload your photo each time you visit the website. You can easily delete your photos at anytime. To delete any, or all, of your photos, simply click on the "X" below your previous photos on the Choose Your Picture page of the Virtual Mirror.

If you would prefer not to use your own photo, you can choose one of our models photos to see what the frames you like look like on someone else. You will get the best results if you choose a model with a similar face shape to your own.
